Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) |
Accessory Dwelling Units, commonly known as Mother-In-Law apartments, are small, second units to existing residences. These commonly manifest as an apartment over a garage or small building in a backyard. These units can be occupied by a family member or rented out for extra income. These small units are very appealing now that the City of Portland has temporarily waived approximately $7,000 to $12,000 of their fees to build one. According to the City of Portland Zoning Code, all residential lots are allowed one ADU. The ADU is subject to size and height requirements relative to the existing house. Below are more resources about ADUs. As always, contact us for any specific questions for your future ADU.
